Epidemic Situation

In order to cope with the spread of the new crown virus in France, the French luxury brand Herm s announced that it would close its French production facility until March 30th.

The Hermes group has a total of 52 production bases, of which 42 are located in France, mainly including tanneries, garment factories, leather goods factories and porcelain factories. The decision will involve 41 of them, except for the perfume factory in Vaudreuil.

Hermes is evaluating the possibility of using Vaudreuil perfume factory to produce washing free hand sanitizer (also known as "hydro-alcoholic" gel), which is urgently needed in France. The group said it has further strengthened the level of health protection in the plant.

Two days ago, the French luxury goods giant LVMH has announced that its cosmetic products and perfume production lines of its brands Dior, Givenchy and Guerlain will be temporarily changed to the wash free liquid soap production line, and the government of France will be supported free of charge.

"In accordance with government instructions, we have closed all stores in France and some other European countries," Axel Dumas, chief executive of Hermes, told a letter to all employees in March 16th. In order to protect the safety of employees in the group, we decided to close in France and production base until March 30th. At present, Hermes has 9500 employees in France.

The group said it would "shut down factories" step by step according to the circumstances of different regions, and advised employees to work at home as much as possible. During this period, Hermes will continue to pay staff salaries.

Affected by the epidemic, Hermes cancelled the Eleventh "Saut Herm s" equestrian handicap originally scheduled for from March 20th to 22nd in The Grand Palace, Paris, and the 2021 early spring series, which was scheduled to be held in London in April 28th. (see the history report of "gorgeous Chronicles"): Cartier, Max Mara and Herm s have cancelled major brand activities under the epidemic.

In February this year, Hermes has said that business activities in China have gradually returned to normal, and the factories in Italy are not closed at the moment. Dumas said in its February performance press conference that Hermes's 80% capacity is located in France, so the supply chain of the company has not been seriously affected.
