Glacier ablation, sea level rise, greenhouse effect... Does climate warming have anything to do with our clothes, curtains and sand releases?

"In 2017, the global production of textile industry generated about 12 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions, exceeding the total of global international flights and marine emissions of greenhouse gases." At the 2019 climate innovation and fashion summit held recently, Fan Huaxing, director of the circular fashion project in the Alan Macarthur foundation of China, provided data of the agency's research.

In the textile production and consumption process, from the selection of renewable materials, the production links of decarburization, the utilization of water resources, the reuse of waste, the utilization rate of clothing and the sustainable business mode, every step will affect carbon emissions and thus have an impact on the climate. In 2018, the total fiber processing in China was about 54 million 600 thousand tons, more than 50% of the total fiber processing in the world, and China's textile and apparel exports amounted to US $276 billion 730 million, accounting for 35% of the world's total. The textile industry is duty bound to achieve green development.

In recent years, China's textile industry has been committed to promoting sustainable development of the industry. Lining group implemented the concept of sustainable development in many aspects such as supply chain materials, water resources utilization and waste disposal. In 2018, the construction of solar power stations not only reduced carbon emissions, but also saved electricity costs by about 400000 yuan. The "zero dye" color spinning technology adopted by the new Tianyuan color spinning company has reduced carbon emissions by 101 thousand tons by the end of 2018, and has accumulated 1 million 900 thousand tons of water consumption.

Gao Yanmin, director of the Department of consumer products industry, Ministry of industry and information technology, said: "the Ministry of industry and information technology has formulated policies such as" green industrial development plan (2016 to 2020) "and" textile industry development plan (2016 to 2020) "in recent years, vigorously supporting the green transformation of traditional manufacturing industries including textile industry, and improving the level of green development of the industry.

The textile industry development plan (2016 - 2020) clearly pointed out that by 2020, the energy consumption of industrial added value of Enterprises above Designated Size in the textile industry has decreased by 18%, the carbon dioxide emission intensity has decreased by 22%, water consumption has been reduced by 23%, and the total utilization of textile fibers has reached 12 million tons.

"Climate change is changing the business environment and pattern of market competition, affecting the supply chain and market demand of enterprises. China attaches great importance to green development. Chinese textile enterprises should clarify the development trend of the world, countries and industries in the changing situation, so as to grasp opportunities and plan the future in changing situations. Sun Ruizhe, President of China Textile Industry Federation, said.

In fact, the concept of textile consumers is changing quietly. Zhang Dachuan, chief content officer of WWD (International Fashion News), said that although the total value of clothing that consumers can still wear each year is $460 billion, 80% of consumers believe that changing daily behavior and shopping habits is a good way to protect the environment.

The pursuit of sustainable development has also become a fashion. Survey data show that 22% of Shanghai consumers are willing to spend more money on environmental protection. Zhang Na, founder of recycling garment bank, said: "we can influence consumers by redesigning old clothes, and then promote the emergence of real circular products."
