In order to overcome procrastination, it is better to figure out the reason for procrastination.

Mark Twin once joked, "don't put things off till tomorrow -- maybe you will do the day after tomorrow."

Procrastination is a bad habit in our life, but this chronic procrastination can bring bad effects to our health, work and interpersonal relationship. Fortunately, there are some direct and effective ways to help us out of procrastination, and our attitude towards tasks will also affect our determination to do things.

Someone has done such a psychological research. The experimenters need to complete a math test, but before they have 15 minutes of rest. During this period, they can do exercises to prepare for tests, to play video games, and to do crossword puzzles.

When researchers said they wanted to use this test to assess their cognitive ability, procrastinators tended to spend more time playing games than others, and when researchers said that tests were purely entertainment, these experimenters spent as much time as others on games.

Find out what causes procrastination can help us avoid it at an early date. Research shows that there are five main reasons why people like to procrastinate.

1. complacency results from being very confident. This is usually lazy or careless. For example, sometimes you think back, "it's too simple. I'll fix it later."

2. in order to avoid inner discomfort. This type of procrastination is mainly due to the discomfort of related activities, especially when people have more acceptable activities, they often choose to procrastinate. In order not to let yourself suffer, you will say to yourself, "I will do simple things first."

3., fear of failure. Fear of failure will prevent you from moving forward, as if you are afraid of being rejected and dare not ask for a promotion or ask for a date.

Four emotion Affect action. When you are too tired, too hungry, or under too much pressure, you can't achieve anything. For example, you will say to yourself, "I am not in the mood now."

5. create the illusion that you have acted. You feel like you are doing things in a regular and orderly way, but in fact, you are still standing there. For example, you are an ambitious project planner. The project has been dragged on and on again, but no practical progress has been made.

Later, if you find yourself having the above symptoms, think back again, because sometimes we need to prescribe the right medicine. However, a good dose of "cure all diseases" can help us better deal with procrastination. Here are five ways:

1. hold on for 5 minutes, first 5 minutes.

5 minutes is not long, but 300 seconds is also the time for a song or an advertisement. It's better to pick a task that has been dragged on by you. Try to do it for 5 minutes. After the time, stop and reassess the task. Then the strength you start with will take you to the bottom.

2. home run - set target And rewards

On this day of work, set goals and rewards. Every time you achieve a goal, give yourself a reward: a short break, a funny video on the tubing, or something else that inspires you.

The important thing is that your goals should be realistic and the rewards should be reasonable. Make sure that you can set aside some time to check your work and adjust your goals accordingly.

3., be good to yourself -- today's VS, tomorrow's me.

Sometimes, you will be annoyed if you are buried by your work. Why didn't you start earlier? So when you meet a job, imagine what dialogue you will have between "today's you" and "tomorrow's you". If they can chat, what will you say to you today?

4. think of some creative penalties for yourself -- the worst.

If you don't finish the task, you will have an unbearable punishment, so you have to start doing things.

You can write a check to your annoying person or object: if you are a sports fan, you can write to you a booting team, and you can also write it to your hostile political party. Give a cheque to your friend and ask closely: if you fail to achieve your goal, send the check. The more you hate each other, the more motivated you are to accomplish your task.

5. look at me - the surveillance of others. Responsibility

Telling your goals to others can give you more support and make you more responsible. Imagine you are on a diet: you can never tell anyone, or tell all your friends and tell them they can't let you eat French fries. Which one will make you feel more stressed? This method may bring you guilt, but it is also very effective.

But you need to pay attention to strategy, because research shows that telling your goals to people will give you an illusion of progress, thereby reducing your chances of success, that is, the "illusion of action" I mentioned before. So try this: ask others to support you, but don't deceive yourself into thinking that you progress.

Procrastination is a hidden killer of dreams, and everyone is affected by it. Find out why you procrastinate and prescribe the right medicine. You will find that you have taken a big step in many aspects of your life.
