Since the financial crisis in 2009, the recovery of the developed economies in Europe and the United States has been relatively slow, the market demand has continued to be weak, and the growth rate of emerging markets has slowed down in recent years.

Consumption has declined slightly.

Nevertheless, some countries have achieved varying degrees of growth in terms of subregional and country level.

The quantity of cotton yarn has increased significantly, and the total demand of cotton has not decreased, and more international resources have been used to maintain the first place in the world's contribution to cotton consumption.

Cotton demand increases Asian cotton consumption growth

Asia is a major area of global cotton consumption growth, with India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and other countries showing varying degrees of growth.

One of the important reasons is that the growth of yarn imports in China has replaced the direct consumption of cotton by some domestic cotton textile enterprises, which has stimulated the growth of cotton consumption.

According to customs data, in the past 2012~2014 years, China imported about 1 million 900 thousand tons of cotton yarn per year, and the total import volume increased by 24.4% in 1-9 months in 2015. It is expected that a large number of imported cotton yarn will be maintained for a period of time in the near future.

India is the second largest cotton consumer in the world, and consumption has increased gradually in recent years.

Since 2011, the number of yarn imports from India has increased rapidly. According to customs data, the import volume from India in 2014 was about 4.3 times that of 2010, with an average annual growth rate of 44%.

In 2015, the total import volume of 547 thousand tons was 1-9, an increase of 40.5% over the same period last year.

Due to the increasing demand for imported yarn in China, the scale of India's spinning continues to expand, and cotton consumption also grows.

In recent years, cotton consumption in Vietnam has also shown a straight upward trend.

According to customs data, the number of yarn imports from Vietnam in 2014 was about 3.7 times that of 2010, with an average annual growth rate approaching 40%.

In 2015, the total import volume of 378 thousand tons was 1-9, an increase of 34.1% over the same period last year.

Besides India and Vietnam, the consumption of cotton in Indonesia and Bangladesh is also increasing by two digit year-on-year. The demand of China's imports of cotton yarn has played a great role in its growth.

Textile enterprises overseas factories increased cotton consumption

As China's textile enterprises pfer overseas to build factories, the consumption of cotton is constantly increasing, and a certain proportion of cotton yarn production is imported into the domestic weaving stage.

Take Vietnam, which has large investment in China, for example, because of low labor costs, there are many advantages in tax and export trade policies. In recent years, spinning enterprises have invested more and more factories in Vietnam and maintained a high contribution rate to the growth of cotton consumption in Vietnam.

According to relevant data, Vietnam's cotton consumption increased by 190 thousand tons in 2014 compared with that of Vietnam. The import of cotton yarn from Vietnam increased by 138 thousand tons over the same period last year, and the cotton consumption accounts for more than 80% of Vietnam's cotton consumption growth.

With the advance of TPP, the advantages of Vietnam's spinning industry will further expand, and the spinning factories in China will use more cotton resources.

As a result, China's textile industry has always maintained a larger and more stable cotton consumption, while consumption patterns and consumption structure have undergone some changes, and have made contributions to the global cotton consumption in various new ways, and the potential for future growth still has potential.
