< p > at present, the Manufacturing Association of Zimbabwe < a href= "http:// www.sjfzxm.com/news/index_c.asp" > clothing < /a > is persuading the government to ban the import of finished garments.

The association said that cheap clothing imported seriously disrupted the national clothing market. Zimbabwe imports $300 million of textile and clothing annually, and a large part of it is ready-made garments.

In addition to P, local clothing manufacturers urged the government to reduce import tariffs on fabrics and other components to 10%, while importing tariffs on garments to 65%.

< /p >

"Clothing is an important industry in Zimbabwe," said GershemPasi, head of the Zimbabwe taxation administration. < p >

Domestic garment manufacturers have been complaining to us that they can not compete with cheap imported clothing.

They said they had been hard pressed to produce clothes, but they were driven out of the local market by imported clothing.

At present, many large garment manufacturers have abandoned production and only do import trade. They do not have one inch cloth and one button in their factories.

< /p >

< p >, however, if the government increases the import tariff of garments heavily, then the smuggling of clothing will become very rampant.

A few years ago, Zimbabwe had raised tariffs on clothing to the same level as luxury goods, causing many objections from importers.

Although these protective policies can protect the domestic garment industry in the strong competition, but because of its many problems, it is difficult to meet the market demand, such as insufficient production fabric, insufficient power supply and coal shortage.

< /p >

< p > because the price is not competitive, domestic chain clothing retailers are reluctant to buy local clothing and prefer cheap imported clothing, which results in a large number of idle workers and equipment in local garment production enterprises, and the utilization rate of capacity is only about 45%~55%.

< p > < strong > Chinese clothing is popular. < /strong > < /p >

< p > although a href= "http:// www.sjfzxm.com/news/index_c.asp" > policy < /a > does not support, but many well-known retailers in Zimbabwe, such as Edgars, Topics, TMSupermarkets, Truworths, and so on, still ventured from abroad, especially China, to import a large number of ready-made garments.

< /p >

< p > the total income of Zimbabwe people is not high. They are very fond of Chinese products.

In Harare, the capital, most locals approve of clothing from China.

Many young people think that Chinese clothing is fashionable and cheap, while the local fashions are old and low-grade, but the price is not cheap.

Under such circumstances, Chinese clothing is very successful when entering the Zimbabwe market.

< /p >

< p > because local clothing is not favored, many garment enterprises do not want to make their own garments and prefer to import from abroad.

Some well-known local garment manufacturers are facing closure due to backward equipment technology. But by importing textiles and finished garments from China, some of them have gradually got rid of their difficulties and even lost their profits.

< /p >

Besides P, other products made in China are also becoming an indispensable part of Zimbabwe life, such as appliances and mobile phones.

An importer said that the quality of Chinese products with better quality and relatively high price is not very common in Zimbabwe's market, so some people have buckled China's goods with a "low quality" hat.

But in fact, China is a "world factory", with strong manufacturing capabilities, and can produce low, medium and high grade products. The quality of Chinese goods is still large, but the price is higher.
