Is It Right Or Wrong To Set Up A Shoe Booth For Poor Students?

Needy Students

In November 7th, the Chongqing information engineering speciality college set up 10 shoe polishing stands in the school, attracting 53 poor students to compete, and the school decided to take turns to work.

These 10 shoes stalls are located in the teaching area and living area of the inevitable flow of people.

Shoes, shoes brushes, shoes and cloth are all provided by schools to poor students and their income is used to subsidize living expenses.

It is more valuable to create conditions, encourage and guide poor students to take the road of self-reliance and work study, which is more valuable than simple grants.

However, the concept and mentality are admirable. But why do we need to let poor students clean their shoes by opening up channels for work study?

It does not discriminate against the meaning of "shoeshine", nor does it mean that the poor students will "drop the price" when they polish their shoes.

But relatively speaking, the demand for shoeshine market in Colleges and universities is not high, and the same capital investment can create more suitable resources for poor students to adapt to campus environment and humanization. It seems that there is no need to set up so-called "love shoes booth".

For example, in a local university where I lived, not long ago, the school invested many books and newspapers kiosks, and the poor college students were responsible for the management and operation. They not only facilitate reading and reading newspapers, but also provide jobs for needy college students.

More importantly, although shoeshine is not shameful, but in the eyes of young people nowadays, shoeshine is always a low-end business. This is an unavoidable group mentality reality.

Therefore, whether we are willing to admit that the poor students who are shoeshine and the campus customers who come to consume are in such a potentially unequal and "highly clear" business relationship.

No doubt, this makes poor students always in the "unusual" field of vision, equivalent to putting it in a relatively isolated space, allowing their original "non crime" poverty situation to be dissected and dissected by the common worldly gaze.

I think this is unfair to the poor students.

Invisibly, it will alienate the school's care and love from the "gift" that must be exchanged with the dignity of the human being, which greatly dampen the very fragile mind and sensitive self-esteem of the poor students.

Perhaps, for many people, poor students should establish a spirit of self-reliance and self abasement, and why they should not feel inferior. This kind of "view" is correct. But if you put more consideration on the psychological needs of impoverished students, you will understand that in a certain environment, "shoeshine" needs greater ideological pressure for poor students. After all, they are teachers and classmates who are getting along with each other, rather than strangers.

This natural "depression" has nothing to do with inferiority or vanity.

The salvation of poor students is a kind of just responsibility carried out by colleges and Universities Based on the spirit of University.

But improper way is also easy to deviate from the just runway, this wipe, "wipe" to rescue justice.

Therefore, to help poor students in Colleges and universities, we must maintain a minimum of respect and caution. We should adopt some more humane methods to set up the campus shoe care booth.
