Food Cactus New Resource Food Qualification

Recently, "edible cactus" was approved by the Ministry of health for new resource food qualification.

On 12 10, at the expert seminar on "new resources, new foods, new nutrition - Cactus nutritional value forum", experts from the Ministry of health, national food and nutrition advisory committee, geriatrics Committee of China Geriatric Society, experts and scholars of medicine and food science fully affirmed the rich nutritional value of "edible cactus" and advocated the further development of it.

New resource foods refer to substances that previously used by Chinese residents without eating habits and found to be edible and harmless to human body, including animals and plants, microbes, extracts, etc.

In 2007, the Ministry of Health issued a new regulation on the management of new resources food, which stipulates that units or individuals who produce, operate or use new resources of food should be reported to the Ministry of health for examination and approval before they are first marketed.

The Ministry of health can evaluate its safety and evaluate the qualification of new resources.

It is understood that this new source of food qualification is developed by Shanghai Shang Yuan Industrial (Group) Co., Ltd. the development of the rice pat Ta "edible cactus".

This variety is a cactus which was bred by Mexico scientists from the plant Xiantao in the 40s of last century and can be eaten as a fruit and vegetable. It is widely consumed in the vegetable market of the Americas.

In 1998, it was introduced into China by the Ministry of agriculture. It has been listed as a key project of the "948 plan".
