The Bangladesh government's solution framework for tackling the global recession does not include the clothing industry. For this reason, the chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the leader of the opposition party, Ms. Khalida Zia, criticized the government for asking the government to allocate funds for the garment industry immediately.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Bangladesh clothing and textiles Expo (Batexpo) in 2009, she said that this practice was very unfavourable for Bangladesh's largest foreign exchange revenue department.

The opposition leader pointed out that because of the decision taken by the government, the clothing sector may not be able to continue to push the country's economic development under the current circumstances.
